6 rouge police officers stea $25,000

The search is on for one of the six rouge police officers involved in the robbery of approximately US$25,500 from two security guards who had picked up US$53,000 dropped during a robbery at Quest Financial Services in Belgravia, Harare, last month. These officers have a history of criminal activities, including robberies, extortions, and abuse of power dating back to 2019.

The two security guards, Cornelius Muchikange and Nesbert Kachungwe of J and P Security Company, were recently found guilty of theft by Harare Magistrate Ethel Chichera. They were sentenced to 48 months in prison, with six months suspended on the condition of good behavior. An additional 18 months were suspended on the condition that they repay US$18,650, which is still outstanding.

Muchikange used his share of the stolen money to purchase a Nissan Sylphy sedan, a residential stand in Eastview, Harare, and to pay lobola. Kachungwe bought a Nissan AD van and building materials. The security guards had found the money dropped by 14 robbers who had stolen US$720,676, R10,500, and 120 Euros.

The six police officers allegedly tracked down the security guards and took back a portion of the money, which they divided among themselves. The officers involved are Detective Sergeant Since Asima of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Constable Perseverance Chisango of ZRP Southerton, Constable Weston Muzoriwa of ZRP Dombotombo, Constable Paradzai Matubu of ZRP Bindura Rural, and Constable Fredrick Moyo of ZRP Harare Central.

The sixth officer, Constable Prosper Chimbumu of ZRP Harare Central Police Station, is currently evading capture. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of the five officers and stated that investigations are ongoing to locate Chimbumu.
