The heartbreaking incident occurred on Saturday, 30 March 2024. The infant, aged one year six months, named Riyadh Munyaradzi Mavunga, fell into an uncovered well and drowned at Christ Liberation Ministries. The baby’s mother, Natasha Tebulo, was attending the service.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the devastating event to H-Metro, stating that they received a report concerning the sudden death of the child. According to Inspector Chakanza, on the evening of 30 March, Natasha realised her baby was missing while she was at the church gathering. She frantically searched for him, even asking neighbours if they had seen her son.

“Police received a sudden death report involving a minor child. On March 30, at around 1800 hours, the (mother) was at a church gathering with the now deceased, who was her infant baby boy. She realised that the now-deceased was missing and started looking for him,” Inspector Chakanza said.

The Tragic Discovery

Growing increasingly anxious, Natasha’s worst fears were confirmed when neighbours indicated that they had last seen the child near the uncovered well. Rushing to the well, Natasha discovered her infant son’s lifeless body at the bottom. Congregants, alerted by the commotion, quickly sprang into action, retrieving the baby’s body from the well and rushing him to Pacific Hospital for emergency medical attention.
