ZESA Temporarily Suspends Electricity Token Sales in Local Currency Amid ZiG Currency Transition

In light of the introduction of new currency Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) is only selling electricity tokens in USD.

The transition to the ZiG currency, announced last Friday, has resulted in the temporary suspension of electricity token sales in local currency.

ZESA Advises Customers to Purchase Electricity Tokens with USD Amid ZiG Currency Conversion

In response to the nation’s transition from the Zimbabwe Dollar (ZWL) to the newly introduced gold-backed ZiG currency, ZESA has announced that it’s conversion to ZiG currency is still underway.

In the public notice update, ZESA advised customers to purchase electricity tokens using USD currency in the meantime.

Please note that our conversion to ZiG is still underway. In the interim, all customers can purchase tokens using usd currency or pay their bills in USD at ZETDC banking halls countrywide and through online platforms.”

The sudden shift in currency caught many Zimbabweans off guard and left a number of customers who had been using the local currency ZWL to purchase their electricity tokens inconvenienced. To assist customers who were in dire need of electricity, ZESA opened its banking halls on Sunday for USD transactions.

To ensure that our customers are not left in the dark during this transitional phase, we have decided to open our banking halls this Sunday for USD transactions.”

 “We understand the frustration this may cause, and we are doing everything in our power to accommodate our customers during this time,” the spokesperson said.

ZESA Apologizes for Disruptions and Assures Customers of Temporary Nature of Currency Transition

Over the weekend, ZESA also issued an apology to it’s customers for the disruptions caused by the currency transition. ZESA reassured its customers that this is a temporary measure.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition period. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the new currency system and minimizing any inconvenience to our valued customers,” read part of the statement.

Commitment to Communication: ZESA Promises Updates Throughout the ZiG Currency Transition

The power utility also emphasized its commitment to keeping the public informed and updated throughout the transition process.

We will continue to communicate any changes or updates promptly through our social media platforms and other channels,” the spokesperson assured.
