The City of Cape Town is pleading with Eskom to reverse its decision to close community-based service centres.
This came after the power utility announced it would be closing its walk-in centres based in townships.
Although the utility has not shared details behind the closure of its hubs, Eskom staff have recently been targeted for robberies in areas including Enkanini and Ndlovini in Khayelitsha.
The city’s MMC for Energy, Beverley van Reenen, said: “The city believes the permanent closure of service hubs could not only worsen the situation but could also lead to public unrest, especially in vulnerable communities.”
Eskom is expected to close its community-based service hubs on Friday.
