The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has urged Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Thembi Nkadimeng to address internal conflicts within her department. According to weekend newspaper reports, there’s conflict between Justice and Constitutional Development Director-General Dr Mashabane and his Deputy Conny Mametja, which has caused divisions in the department.
It is reported that numerous complaints have been sent to the minister regarding allegations of sexual harassment by senior male officials in the department. COSATU national spokesperson Zanele Sabela says the allegations must be investigated by capable authorities.
“Taking all this into account, COSATU calls on Minister Nkadimeng to do whatever is necessary to ensure these side shows are resolved immediately to prevent distraction from the important work of the department,” adds Sabela.
