Trump Proposes Automatic Green Cards for US College Graduates
In what is music to the ears of Zimbabweans looking to relocate or formalise their stay in the United States, former President Donald Trump has proposed automatically granting green cards to foreign nationals who graduate from American colleges.
This marks a significant shift from his previous stance on legal and illegal immigration during his presidency.
Trump said this while appearing as a guest on “The All-In Podcast,” hosted by prominent tech investors. When asked by host Jason Calacanis about improving the ability to “import the best and brightest from around the world,” Trump responded with his new proposal.
Trump Calls For Automatic Green Cards for All US College Graduates
“What I want to do, and what I will do, is you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country,” Trump said.
He added, “And that includes junior colleges too. Anybody graduates from a college — you go in there for two years or four years. If you graduate, or you get a doctorate degree from a college, you should be able to stay in this country.”

However, Trump’s campaign spokeswoman, Karoline Leavitt, clarified that the graduates would undergo screening “to exclude all communists, radical Islamists, Hamas supporters, America haters and public charges.”
The former president’s latest comments mark a significant shift from his previous hardline stance on immigration, which was a central focus of his 2016 and 2020 campaigns. His proposal comes after President Joe Biden’s recent executive action aimed at making it easier for some undocumented immigrants to apply for permanent residency.
