Phone Of Zimbabwean Prisoner Who Bragged About ‘Soft Life’ In South African Jail Confisticated

The phone of the Zimbabwean prisoner who was bragging about a good life in a South African jail has been confiscated.

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has denounced the actions of Bornface Banks, an inmate at Goodwood Correctional Centre, who recently uploaded a video showcasing his comfortable life in prison.

In the controversial video, Banks, who is from Zimbabwe and currently held on kidnapping charges, is seen wearing yellow overalls and boasting about the perks of prison life.

“Hello haters, you put us in prison thinking we would suffer. But no, my brother, we are doing extremely fine. Look at how happy we are. This morning, we had breakfast, in the afternoon, we had lunch, and we are about to have dinner,” Banks said, laughing with fellow inmates. “We are happy. If you think we are suffering, you are wrong.”

The video has sparked outrage among the public and officials, raising concerns about how inmates can obtain contraband such as mobile phones.

DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo condemned the inmate’s behaviour and confirmed that the phone used to record the video had been confiscated.

Strict Measures to Prevent Future Incidents

“He is a Zimbabwean national remanded at Goodwood Correctional Centre for kidnapping allegations. A search exercise was conducted, and the used cellphone was confiscated,” Nxumalo said.

He emphasized that such behaviour would not be tolerated and that inmates caught with contraband items would face serious consequences.

Nxumalo refuted the inmate’s claims of luxurious prison life, reiterating that the DCS is dedicated to maintaining strict security measures and preventing the entry of contraband items.
