Tshwane emergency teams on high alert after level 2 warning for possible thundershowers

Emergency teams in Tshwane are on high alert following a level two warning for possible thunderstorms.

This comes as parts of the country are expected to be hit by heavy downpours, with flooding also expected in low-lying areas.

Provinces warned to be on high alert include Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, and Free State.

Tshwane Emergency Management Services (EMS) said residents need to practice caution and avoid flooded roads.

“If possible, stay indoors and away from metal objects. Do not seek shelter under trees or tall objects. Avoid crossing flooded low-lying roads, bridges, and swollen streams,” said spokesperson Charles Mabaso.

“Be aware that any combination of hail, strong winds, heavy rain, and/or excessive lighting can accompany storms.”
