A 30-year-old man, identified as one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most wanted criminals, has been arrested in Johannesburg.
The suspect has been on the run in both Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
He faces multiple charges, including murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, and the attempted murder of two police officers.
Authorities had been trying to apprehend the man for several months.
He failed to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court in July 2024 on charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm.
At the time, he was also wanted for a murder in KwaZulu-Natal.
The arrest took place on Saturday, September 14, in an intelligence-driven operation led by the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS).
The operation was supported by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial tracing team and Johannesburg’s Aggravated Robberies unit.
The Hawks, working with the Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, obtained a warrant and arrested the suspect near the George Koch hostel in Jeppe, Johannesburg.
The man will first appear in court in Johannesburg on the firearm charge.
He will then be transferred to KwaZulu-Natal, where he faces further charges related to two murders and attempted murder.
