Two of the three people linked to an extortion case involving policemen in Cape Town have been set free after the state dropped its case against them.
The trio, including a former policeman and two women, appeared before the city’s Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
They appeared separately from the eight policemen linked to the matter, who also came before Magistrate Alida Theart on Wednesday.
The two women who were arrested on Monday, for their alleged involvement in the extortion of a Chinese shop owner in Milnerton on Sunday are free.
However, the former policeman who appeared with them has been sent back to prison
He will now join eight of his former colleagues when they appear again on 22 October 2024.
The court heard that the former cop is also out on bail on another case at the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court, under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
