2024 ZIMSEC Grade 7 Results: Manicaland’s Schools Take the Lead
Manicaland has once again proved its academic excellence in the 2024 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Grade 7 results. A total of 536 candidates from the province excelled, achieving remarkable results by scoring a perfect six units across the six subjects. The province also reported no schools with a zero percent pass rate, marking an exceptional milestone in education.
Speaking about the success, Acting Provincial Education Director, Mr Richard Gabaza, attributed the outstanding performance to the dedication of learners, teachers, and administrators.
“It was through determination, dedication, courage, and perseverance,” he said.
Top 10 Schools Shine
The province’s top-performing schools showcased exceptional results, with Mutare Junior Primary School leading the pack. Below is a breakdown of the top 10 schools and their six-unit achievers:
- Mutare Junior Primary School
- Six-Unit Achievers: 75
- Past Performance: 90 in 2023, 54 in 2022.
- Baring Primary School
- Six-Unit Achievers: 57
- Past Performance: 65 in 2023.
- Chancellor Junior School
- Six-Unit Achievers: 42
- Past Performance: 48 in 2023.
- St Joseph’s Primary School (Rusape)
- Six-Unit Achievers: 28
- Past Performance: 43 in 2023.
- John Cowie Primary School
- Six-Unit Achievers: 25
- Past Performance: 45 in 2023.
- Chipinge Junior School
- Six-Unit Achievers: 22
- Mt Mellerary Primary School
- Six-Unit Achievers: 19
- Past Performance: 50 six-unit achievers in 2023.
- 3 Brigade Primary School
- Six-Unit Achievers: 18

Dedication Behind Success
Commenting on the province’s achievements, Mr Gabaza emphasised the importance of teamwork.
“Our officials were on the ground, monitoring and supervising the curriculum implementation in the best possible way,” he said as quoted by The Manica Post.
The province also introduced measures to ensure transparency in high school enrolments through the e-map platform, which allows parents and learners to apply online for Form One places. Mr Gabaza urged fairness in the process, highlighting the importance of merit-based admissions.
A Path to National Excellence
Nationally, the 2024 Grade Seven pass rate improved to 49.01 percent, up from 45.57 percent in 2023. Girls outperformed boys, with a 53.68 percent average pass rate compared to 43.99 percent for boys.
Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Taungana Ndoro, expressed optimism about the future.
“We see ourselves going forward, increasing our pass rate and bridging the 50 percent mark by next year,” he said.
As Manicaland continues to lead in academic performance, the focus remains on building a strong educational foundation for the nation’s future.
