It’s emerged that three of the six s.e.x workers murdered in Johannesburg two years ago have still not been identified.
The man convicted for raping and killing them, Sifiso Mkhwanazi, appeared in the Johannesburg High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday after spending over a month at a mental facility.
Mkhwanazi has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at the Sterkfontein Hospital pending sentencing.
His brief court appearance was postponed to August due to outstanding reports.
Although the move was welcomed by his defense team and the State, colleagues of some of the women he murdered expressed their dismay with the delay.
To date, only three of his victims have been identified while the other three victims remain untraceable.
“The thing that comes through my mind is: ‘What if it was me…was I going to leave my kids behind because of this guy?’,” said one of the s.e.x workers attending court.
When the matter returns to court, Judge Cassim Moosa will evaluate evidence including mitigating and aggravating factors before sentencing the accused.
