Benni McCarthy Hints at Kaizer Chiefs Move, Backs Pitso Mosimane for Bafana Bafana Coaching Job
Benni McCarthy has suggested he would consider taking the helm at Kaizer Chiefs, but emphasized that any approach would need to come from the club.
The former Orlando Pirates striker, now coaching the Kenya national team, addressed speculation about the Amakhosi vacancy during an appearance on Marawa Sports Worldwide.
“They are a good team with very good players,” McCarthy said. “But if nobody comes knocking on my door, it means you are happy with what you have. If they want me, they know where I am and how to make it happen. Other than that, it’s just a rumour.”

Club Football Still a Priority
Currently managing the Kenya national team, McCarthy admitted he ultimately sees himself returning to club football, valuing the day-to-day work of developing players over limited national team engagements.
“The experience in Kenya has been nice, but I think I am still too young to go so long without action. I want to improve players and you don’t always have enough time with them at national level. After this experience, I would like to go back to managing clubs,” he said
Successful Stint at AmaZulu
McCarthy previously enjoyed success with AmaZulu, guiding the KwaZulu-Natal club to a second-place finish in the 2020/21 season and helping them qualify for the CAF Champions League, one of the team’s most significant modern achievements.
His achievements at AmaZulu have fueled speculation about whether Chiefs might consider him as a candidate to turn around their fortunes.
Eyes on Bafana Bafana
While the Chiefs role remains under discussion, McCarthy also weighed in on the national team situation. With Hugo Broos expected to step down as Bafana Bafana coach after the upcoming FIFA World Cup, McCarthy expressed support for Pitso Mosimane as his preferred successor.
“Coach Pitso has my vote. He deserves another opportunity and is one of the most accomplished coaches to come out of this country. His record speaks for itself,” McCarthy said.
