Ruth Hwara’s family has blamed Zimbabweans for her death as people blamed them for chowing her donations.

Ruth died last week after a short but heartbreaking battle with a kidney problem. Zimbos online donated money for her transplant in India, but it vanished.

 

Ruth Hwara’s Family Blames Social Media Users For Her Death As Zimbos

The 24-year-old was buried this past weekend, and her family blamed people online for her death. They said people’s comments following revelations that her donations money was misappropriated deeply affected her.

One relative told Zimbo Live TV:

“Pakatanga Ruth kuzoita worse kurwara, akatanga atoona zvakandwa pa social media about her. Then hutano hwake hwakatanga kudzikira because aiona. She had her phone. Saka tiri kutoti ve social media vakabatsiridza.

“Because imagine ndini ndiri kurwara ndiri kuona zviri kutaurwa pa social media. Ndine hunhu hwandinofana kunyarwa nahwo, ndine respect yandinotarisira. Ndiri kungotaurwa pa social media apa ndiri kurwara. Ndipo paakazoita stroke yekupedzisira because akange asuffer a lot from social media .”

 

What Happened?

Ruth Hwara was a 24-year-old University of Zimbabwe graduate who was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) shortly after completing her studies in December 2022. She became dependent on dialysis, undergoing gruelling five-hour sessions twice a week.

Ruth’s situation garnered public attention when people launched a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of a life-saving kidney transplant in India, estimated at US$30,000. People allegedly raised US$70,000.

Tragically, Ruth’s journey took a heartbreaking turn when it was reported that an Ecocash agent had stolen US$13,000 of the funds raised for her transplant. The kidney patient died on 15 August without having travelled to India for a kidney transplant.
