Chaos on Gweru-Zvishavane Road: Kombi Driver Rams Roadblock, Injures Cop and Motorist 

In an alarming incident on Thursday, a police officer and a motorist were injured when a kombi driver, resisting arrest for a traffic offence, recklessly drove into police equipment at a roadblock on the Gweru-Zvishavane road.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating the case as an attempted murder and have identified the suspect as George Mandaraza.

According to police reports, the incident took place at a checkpoint at the 42-kilometer mark along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road.

Details: Kombi Driver Rams Roadblock, Injures Cop and Motorist

The driver, 34-year-old George Mandaraza, was arrested and being escorted to the station.

However, Mandaraza then made a U-turn and deliberately drove the kombi towards the roadblock, plowing through police drums. The kombi veered off the road, hitting streetlights before colliding head-on with a Honda Fit.

Both a police officer and the Honda Fit driver were injured in the incident. Mandaraza then fled the scene.

Police have opened an attempted murder investigation and are appealing for information to help locate the suspect.

The police said in a statement:

“George Mandaraza, 34, who was driving a Toyota Hiace kombi, registration number AFE 1506 with three passengers on board was stopped at the roadblock where he was arrested for a traffic offence and was escorted to the nearest police station.

Along the way, the suspect made a U-turn and intentionally drove the kombi towards the roadblock where he hit the police drums.

Subsequently, the kombi veered off the road and hit streetlights before being involved in a head on collision with a Honda Fit vehicle.”
