‘It’s High Time We Trust Our Own’: Mngqithi Endorses Pitso Mosimane for Bafana Bafana
Yanga head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has added his voice to growing calls for Pitso Mosimane to become the next Bafana Bafana coach, saying the highly decorated tactician deserves the opportunity if the position becomes available.
Mngqithi’s endorsement comes as uncertainty continues to surround the future of current Bafana coach Hugo Broos. While the South African Football Association (SAFA) maintains that Broos remains in charge, reports from Belgium have fuelled speculation that his tenure could be coming to an end.

Mngqithi believes Mosimane deserves the opportunity
Speaking on Radio 2000, Mngqithi said the national team should place its faith in South African coaches, highlighting Mosimane as one of the country’s most qualified candidates.
He said some coaching positions should come naturally to deserving individuals rather than being actively pursued.
“There are positions that must come to you and not you going all out to say, ‘Hey, I want that job,’ because it is unfair to everyone else that might be deserving of getting the job,” Mngqithi said.
He added that South Africa has several capable coaches but singled out Mosimane as someone who has earned the chance to lead the national team.
“There are so many good coaches out there. There is coach Pitso who is not working currently and he deserves that opportunity.
There are so many coaches that qualify for that position of leading Bafana Bafana, so let the reality unfold. It’s high time we trust our own.”
Support for Mosimane continues to grow
Mngqithi joins Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie, who has also publicly backed Mosimane to take over should the Bafana Bafana position become vacant.
Mosimane remains one of Africa’s most successful coaches, having guided Mamelodi Sundowns to the CAF Champions League title in 2016 before winning consecutive continental crowns with Egyptian giants Al Ahly in 2020 and 2021.
Speculation continues over Broos’ future
Although SAFA has insisted that Broos is still the national team’s head coach, reports linking the Belgian mentor with an exit have intensified debate over who could succeed him.
