Thief Climbs 30-Meter Tower to Escape Angry Mob After Attempted Solar Panel Theft

In a dramatic shocking turn of events, a 22-year-old man named Dingani climbed a 30-meter tower light in Rimuka suburb, Kadoma, after being chased by a mob for allegedly attempting to steal solar panels.

The incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday near Nherera Bar and left residents stunned as Dingani threatened to jump from the tower.

Attempted Theft Leads to a Desperate Escape

The drama unfolded at around 4 a.m. when Dingani was reportedly caught trying to steal solar panels from a house on Masvaure Street. Chased by angry residents, he sought refuge by climbing the tall tower.

His decision to ascend the structure escalated the situation, as he soon began threatening to commit suicide.

We were woken up very early in the morning to hear that Dingani had gone up this tower light,” said Abigail, a neighbor who witnessed the scene.

We haven’t slept since then. This is a surprise to us. We don’t know why he climbed there, but I heard he was caught and escaped after trying to steal those solar panels.”

Dramatic Rescue by a Brave Neighbor

After nearly three hours of tense negotiation, Dingani was eventually brought down from the tower, thanks to the efforts of Tafadzwa Maxwell ‘Agaga’ Mwanyisa. Tafadzwa, determined to save Dingani, climbed the tower himself despite the risks involved.

I dedicated myself to save this guy. My wife tried to restrain me, but I remained determined,” Tafadzwa explained.

When I climbed to the top of the tower, I had to devise a way to speak to Dingani since he was in a precarious position. I showed him enough money to buy his favorite drink, and after that, I asked him to drop the knife and electric shocker he had, and he complied.”

With Dingani now in a calmer state, Tafadzwa was able to bring him safely to the ground. Dingani was later taken to Rimuka police station under heavy guard.

Neighborhood Shock and Concern

Local residents were both shocked and concerned by the incident. Shylet, another neighbor, explained how Dingani had been acting suspiciously the night before the attempted theft.

For all night, Dingani was outdoors making suspicious moves. Our mother was even afraid to go for early morning errands, fearing he could pounce on her. We then heard he was caught trying to steal our neighbor’s solar panels,” Shylet recounted.
