The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has reopened the Victoria Falls Rainforest after a brief safety closure.
Officials closed the popular attraction on Tuesday, 21 July, after elephants entered the area.
The precaution lasted about two and a half hours. During that period, ZimParks prioritised the safety of visitors, staff and wildlife.
Spokesperson Luckmore Safuli said rangers closely tracked the elephants before safely escorting them away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
“During the operation, it was established that two elephants were in the area, contrary to the initial report of one,” said Safuli.
“Both animals have since been moved away from the Rainforest, and the area has been assessed and declared safe for public access.
“Normal operations have resumed, allowing visitors to once again enjoy one of Zimbabwe’s premier natural attractions and one of the world’s great natural wonders.”
ZimParks Repairs Damaged Areas
Meanwhile, ZimParks has started repairing sections of the rainforest damaged during the incident.
The authority aims to restore affected areas while maintaining a safe environment for tourists.
In addition, Safuli thanked visitors and tourism stakeholders for their patience during the temporary closure.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to visitors, tourism stakeholders and members of the public for their patience, understanding and cooperation during the temporary restriction,” said Safuli.
Authority Reaffirms Safety Commitment
ZimParks also reaffirmed its commitment to balancing public safety with wildlife conservation.
The authority said it will continue protecting Zimbabwe’s natural heritage while ensuring visitors enjoy a secure experience.
“ZimParks remains committed to ensuring public safety while promoting the conservation and sustainable management of Zimbabwe’s wildlife heritage.”
