Daisy Mtukudzi Speaks Out After Backlash Over Selmor’s Omission From Oliver Mtukudzi Festival

Daisy Mtukudzi, widow of the legendary Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi, has come out to set the record straight after being accused of preventing her stepdaughter, Selmor Mtukudzi, from performing at the upcoming Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival (OMIFA).

The controversy erupted on social media when Selmor’s name was initially absent from the festival’s lineup, sparking outrage and calls for a boycott from fans who felt she should have a central role in the event honoring her father’s legacy.

Daisy also found herself getting dragged and slammed by social media users as many accused her of side lining Selmor.

“I Am Tired of That Issue” – Daisy Mtukudzi

In response to the criticism, Daisy Mtukudzi spoke out, stating that she was fed up with being blamed for Selmor’s absence. Speaking to The Herald, Daisy explained that the situation was not in her control and that the event organizers had attempted to reach Selmor.

“I am tired of that issue because people will always put the blame on me. I was told by the event organisers that she was not picking up her calls,” she said.

Daisy went on to explain that Selmor, as Oliver Mtukudzi’s daughter, should have taken the initiative to be involved in the family event.

Selmor was supposed to be at the forefront leading us, but she is difficult,” she added.

Daisy expressed that the controversy and threats of a boycott did not concern her.

“I will not lose sleep over people planning a boycott since it will change nothing,” she remarked.

Daisy also dismissed the idea that Selmor was being treated as an outcast, stating,

“I don’t know what people want me to do for Selmor because she is not a minor anymore. She knows the right thing to do for the sake of protecting the family name.”
