In a heartbreaking event that has left the community of Mbeure in Chipinge reeling, a man identified as Musikavantu Chirigo, 37, is accused of brutally killing his younger sister’s baby with a machete amid a domestic argument. The incident, which unfolded recently, has sent shockwaves through the village, with many struggling to comprehend the horrific nature of the crime.
Escalating Violence Over Family Tensions
According to reports, the confrontation began when Chirigo became agitated after seeing his 21-year-old nephew, Uria Porai Chirigo, asleep under a tree at their family home. This seemingly minor incident allegedly provoked a violent response from Chirigo.
The situation quickly escalated as Chirigo attacked his sister with a spanner, forcing her to take refuge in a nearby kitchen hut. Despite her efforts to escape, Chirigo’s anger intensified. He shattered a window to pursue her further.
Court Proceedings Begin For Murder
The shocking case was brought before the Chipinge Magistrates Court yesterday, where the accused, Musikavantu Chirigo, first appeared. Presiding over the case, Magistrate Nixon Mangoti advised Chirigo that he could apply for bail at the High Court but did not ask for a plea.
