30-Year-Old Woman Jailed After Selling Dagga At Mission School Gate
A woman caught selling drugs to students at the gate of Inyathi Mission High School has been sentenced to jail. Buhlebenkosi Hlabangana, 30, was handed an effective six-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to a drug-related charge.
Hlabangana appeared before Inyathi Resident Magistrate Challenge Mahembe on Monday, August 24, 2026. She was convicted of unlawful possession or use of dangerous drugs under Section 157(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
Inyathi School Drug Dealer Gets Jail Term
The court sentenced Hlabangana to 10 months in prison, with four months suspended for five years. The suspended portion is conditional on her not committing another offence involving dangerous drugs.
Magistrate Mahembe said selling drugs at a school gate exposed pupils to serious risks.
“You exposed innocent children to dagga. Doing so had the potential of ruining their lives and causing them to fail in the pursuit of their education.”
The magistrate said a custodial sentence was necessary to send a warning to others involved in drug dealing.
Police Find 80g Of Dagga Hidden In Bucket
The court heard that police officers were on patrol when they received a tip-off about Hlabangana allegedly selling drugs alongside other goods at the school.
Officers searched her and found dagga concealed in a plastic bag inside a bucket. The drug was later weighed and recorded as 80 grammes before being entered as an exhibit.
Prosecutor Happiness Nleya said the location of the alleged drug dealing was a serious aggravating factor.
Hlabangana apologised and told the court that financial hardship had pushed her into selling drugs. She said she was the sole breadwinner for her two children.
The sentence comes as authorities continue efforts to tackle drug and substance abuse in Zimbabwe.
