Five-Year Affair, Lobola And A Tragic End: What Led To The Dzivarasekwa Tragedy Involving MSU Lecturer Martin Muduva?

A weekend lobola ceremony involving Midlands State University lecturer Martin Muduva has emerged as a significant development in the events surrounding the tragedy that later unfolded in Dzivarasekwa.

Muduva reportedly paid lobola for Patience Mangwiro, the university’s acting Director of Enterprise, after the pair had been in a relationship for several years.

The two are said to have a child together, with their relationship reportedly spanning about five years.

WhatsApp Post Raises Questions

Muduva briefly shared a picture from the lobola ceremony on his WhatsApp status on Monday before deleting it.

Mangwiro also reportedly posted some of the ceremony photographs on social media, bringing renewed attention to the relationship.

The developments came just before Muduva was fatally attacked at his Dzivarasekwa home.

Fatal Attack At Home

Muduva was attacked while he slept, with his wife, Lyliosa Chirara, reportedly striking him three times with an axe.

Chirara subsequently died after reportedly taking rat poison in an apparent suicide.

The deaths have since sent shockwaves through the MSU community.

“We have been saddened by the death of these two people,” a student at the university said.

The student claimed Mangwiro had recently shared pictures from the lobola ceremony online, describing the circumstances as deeply sad.

Relationship Followed Earlier Marriage

Mangwiro’s relationship with Muduva reportedly began after the breakdown of her first marriage.

The pair remained together for years and had a child before their relationship culminated in the weekend lobola ceremony.
