Duo In Court Over US$108K Armed Robbery
Two Harare men have appeared in court over a string of alleged armed robberies, including the theft of US$108,000 (approximately R1.78 million) from a company in Ruwa, with investigators also linking them to two other incidents.
Tinei Makaripe, 47, and Pungurai Mukambachaza, 49, are facing three counts. Their alleged accomplices remain at large.
Ruwa Company Targeted In Alleged US$108K Heist
The case stems from an alleged robbery at Xinda Castings in Ruwa on September 13, 2026.
According to H-Metro, the accused allegedly entered the premises armed with pistols after scaling a precast wall. They allegedly changed into company work suits and helmets before confronting workers and forcing them towards the offices.
The State alleges that they then confronted Chinese national Zhan Lingyue and demanded cash.
“The gang allegedly ransacked the office and stole a satchel containing US$108,000.”
As the suspects fled, workers reportedly chased them. Makaripe was allegedly struck by a brick and apprehended, while his alleged accomplices escaped.
Mukambachaza was later arrested, with US$4,900 (approximately R80,850) allegedly recovered from his home.
Suspects Linked To More Alleged Robberies
The State also alleges that the pair were involved in an attempted robbery at Kurima Centre in Msasa on September 12.
The suspects allegedly entered armed with a pistol, iron bars, machetes and a bolt cutter. They reportedly fled empty-handed after security guards raised the alarm and a Safeguard reaction team arrived.
The pair are also being linked to an armed robbery at Redan Service Station in Glen View on June 22, 2026.
The allegations are before the courts and have not been proven.
The case places the two men before the courts over three alleged incidents spanning June and September. Their alleged accomplices remain at large as investigations continue.
