Police top brass say a person of interest has been identified in the Lusikisiki mass murder case but no charge has been laid yet.
They say the person in question has only been brought in for questioning over the matter.
Eighteen people were gunned down in two separate homes in the area on Saturday, sending nationwide shockwaves.
The Police Ministry alongside Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane briefed journalists in the rural town on Tuesday afternoon, after visiting affected families.
“No, at the end of the questioning, it will be decided the person is arrested or released. The investigation continues,” said National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola.
When asked if the person of interest is someone known to the deceased, Masemola said: “The person of interest to say where is he coming from, who is related to that is part of the investigation that you are not going to get now. You’ll get it in court if ever this person ends up in court.”
