Emfuleni municipality signs distribution agreement with Eskom to enhance revenue collection

The Emfuleni local municipality has signed Eskom’s Distribution Agency Agreement in a bid to enhance revenue collection and settle outstanding debt.

As part of this agreement, the municipality will appoint Eskom as its service delivery agent to manage all duties related to its electricity operations.

This agreement comes after Eskom attached Emfuleni’s bank accounts due to non-payment of its electricity bill.

The situation caused delays in disbursing salaries to municipal workers, who finally received their September salaries on Thursday.

Eskom spokesperson, Amanda Qithi:

“Eskom and Emfuleni Local Municipality have also reached an agreement relating to the attachment of the bank accounts and to ensure that the municipality is able to pay salaries to its employees. The municipality has committed to cooperating with Eskom and complying with the Distribution Agency Agreement.”
