Case of 3 suspects linked to string of cases not on its roll, says Lusikisiki court

The Lusikisiki Magistrates Court says the case of the three suspects linked to a string of cases in the area is not on its roll.

On Sunday, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu announced that police had nabbed the three men in relation to several cases.

He also said while the trio was not specifically linked to a massacre where 18 people were killed last week, they were being treated as persons of interest in the matter.

Several community members, especially the families of the massacre victims, were expecting the three suspects to appear in court on Monday as Mchunu said during Sunday’s mass memorial service.

However, the magistrate said the case was not on Monday’s list.

“Initially we were told that we should be here at 9 o’clock and then we were told that it’s moved to 12 o’clock and then postponed for 2 o’clock, and that very time has not been met because the community was called in to be briefed that there is no case on the roll,” said David King, who is an uncle to one of the massacre victims.

Police have yet to respond to the matter.
