Grant Thornton Zimbabwe partner Kundai Tibugare has strongly denied allegations of an affair with journalist Musorowegomo Mukosi’s estranged wife, Esther Vimbainashe Jerera, as the dispute over a US$200,000 (approximately R3.3 million) adultery damages claim intensifies. Meanwhile, Jerera has made separate allegations of physical, emotional and financial abuse against Mukosi, claims that remain contested.
In a letter dated 8 October 2026, Tibugare’s lawyers challenged the legal basis of the claim and accused Mukosi of trying to damage their client’s professional reputation. Jerera has also disputed her estranged husband’s account of their relationship and denied having an affair with Tibugare.
Tibugare Denies Adultery And Challenges Mukosi’s US$200,000 Claim
Tibugare, represented by Chimuka Mafunga Commercial Attorneys, rejected allegations that he had an extramarital relationship with Jerera, who is also studying law at the University of Zimbabwe.
His lawyers disputed Mukosi’s claims about alleged travel to South Africa and Madagascar, as well as allegations that Tibugare bought Jerera a white Toyota Fortuner.
The legal team also questioned Mukosi’s claimed access to call records, flight information, airport CCTV footage and mobile phone location data.
“The reference to our client’s workplace is mischievous and meant to tarnish his professional image,” the lawyers stated.
Mukosi is demanding US$200,000 (approximately R3.3 million), comprising US$100,000 (R1.65 million) for alleged injury to his dignity, reputation and privacy, and another US$100,000 (R1.65 million) for the alleged loss of companionship and other benefits of marriage.
Mukosi’s Estranged Wife Makes Abuse Allegations
In a separate affidavit, Jerera said she married Mukosi in 2017 and that they have one child together. She stated that they separated in October 2025, although their civil marriage has not formally been dissolved.
Jerera alleges that she experienced repeated assaults and other forms of abuse during their relationship. She also claims Mukosi contacted men he suspected of having relationships with her and obtained her call records.
These are allegations made by Jerera and have not been independently established in the information provided.
She further denied that Tibugare was financially supporting her, saying her qualifications as a chartered accountant and income from her consulting business enabled her to support herself.
Jerera Disputes Claims About Her Property And Alleged Affair
Jerera challenged Mukosi’s description of a property at Crowhill Farm as their matrimonial home, saying she bought the stand using an inheritance from her late parents and built a cottage there in 2025.
She also denied confessing to an affair with Tibugare and challenged Mukosi to produce evidence of the alleged confession.
The dispute now involves competing accounts of the marriage, allegations of adultery and questions surrounding the evidence cited in the damages claim. Tibugare denies the allegations against him, while Jerera maintains that her relationship with Mukosi ended in October 2025.
