Gauteng’s Finance MEC, Lebogang Maile, has written to the Public Service Commission (PSC) over its findings on allegations leveled against his chief of staff Collin Pitso.
Pitso allegedly received R6.5 million from state-capture-implicated businessman, Edwin Sodi during his tenure as Nomvula Mokonyane’s chief of staff.
During the state capture inquiry proceedings in 2020, Sodi told the commission that the payment was for an entity owned by Pitso’s father.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the provincial treasury said the allegations against Pitso were not new and were thoroughly dealt with during the Zondo inquiry.
This follows calls by the Democratic Alliance (DA) for Maile to probe Pitso’s conduct as well as whether he correctly declared his interests as per the public service regulations.
The MEC’s spokesperson, Castor Ngobese said the PSC’s findings would be shared publicly.
“MEC of Finance and Economic Development, honourable Lebogang Maile, has been made aware of the alleged improper conduct against his chief of staff, Mr. Collin Pitso. We have since dispatched a formal letter to the Public Service Commission (PSC) to provide a summary of disclosure records and the findings against the concerned individual. PSC is a credible and competent institution that deals with matters of this nature.”
