The newly elected Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Dr Nasiphi Moya has committed to combating crime in the City. This follows a Ministerial Signing of Cooperation Agreement with Gauteng Province and National police ministry.
The signatories pledged the three spheres of government to jointly combat crime in the City. Moya was elected on Wednesday after she clinched 122 votes after former mayor Cilliers Brink was removed in a motion of no confidence two weeks ago.
“This agreement means that between the three spheres of government, we will be integrating and sharing our resources, whether in the form of the human resources, the officers that we deploy, or the vehicles or the tools of trade. So there are things that we’ve always identified that when it comes to the problem that we have as the country, which is the crime, it affects all of us. But the way we approach crime has always been fragmented. And what is quite important now is that once this team works together, we will be able to pull our resources. So, this agreement was very significant,” says Moya.
