Police have arrested four suspects in two separate operations targeting cross-border vehicle smuggling in Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrests in a statement. Officers conducted the operations in Beitbridge and Plumtree on 18 October.
Authorities say the suspects allegedly smuggled vehicles into the country. One vehicle reportedly originated from a robbery in South Africa.
Beitbridge Arrests Linked to Stolen Isuzu
Support Unit officers stationed in Beitbridge arrested Korombi Muleya, 29, and Elelwanni Mbedzi, 36.
Police apprehended the pair during Operation “No to Cross Border Crimes”. The operation targets smuggling and other offences involving Zimbabwe’s borders.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly smuggled a white Isuzu single-cab vehicle into Zimbabwe. The vehicle carries registration number AED 4564.
Police investigations reportedly traced the Isuzu to a robbery in South Africa. Authorities believe criminals stole the vehicle before transporting it across the border.
Two More Suspects Arrested in Plumtree
Meanwhile, another operation in Plumtree resulted in two additional arrests on the same day.
Support Unit officers arrested Toverengwa Mabwe, 31, and Last Ndlovu, 36. Police apprehended them at Village 6, Mbwenda Business Centre.
The two allegedly smuggled a metallic blue Toyota Yaris into Zimbabwe.
The arrests highlight the police’s continued efforts to combat cross-border vehicle smuggling. Operation “No to Cross Border Crimes” remains focused on preventing illegal activities along the country’s borders.
Police have not provided further details about the suspects’ court appearances or the status of the vehicles.
