WATCH: Leopard Attacks People Who Called It Closer for a Selfie

A group of picnickers in Madhya Pradesh, India, got more than they bargained for after luring a leopard toward them in hopes of snapping some close-up photos, only to end up in a terrifying situation.

Group of Picnickers Attempt to Lure a Wild Leopard

The group was enjoying a day out in the South Forest Division Range of Shahdol when they spotted a leopard lurking nearby. Seizing the opportunity, they took out their smartphones and began calling to the wild animal, encouraging it to approach. In a video of the incident, the group can be heard shouting, “Aa jaa, aa jaa (Come here, come here),” to the leopard.

At first, their efforts seemed like a harmless attempt to interact with nature, but the situation quickly spiralled out of control. The leopard, responding to their calls, suddenly charged at full speed. What started as excitement turned to panic as the group’s laughter was replaced by terrified screams. The chilling scene unfolded near the Son River in Khitauli.

One member of the group captured the heart-stopping moment when the leopard chased a man who was desperately running back to the group. The animal mauled him before others managed to scare it away, bringing the attack to a brutal end. The video of the attack can be watched here.

Three Injured During Leopard Attack

Three individuals from the group were injured and rushed to the hospital. While the extent of their injuries remains unclear, they have been identified as Nitin Samdariya, an assistant sub-inspector with the Shahdol police, Akash Kushwaha, and Nandini Singh, residents of Shahdol town, about 100 km from Khitauli.

In the aftermath, authorities have issued warnings to visitors, urging them to stay away from the area and be vigilant in nearby parks due to the presence of dangerous wildlife.
