The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed Kalisto Pasuwa as the interim head coach of the Malawi national team, known as the Flames. Pasuwa, a seasoned Zimbabwean coach, takes the reins following the dismissal of Patrick Mabedi earlier this week. The appointment was ratified during an FAM Executive Committee meeting, where Pasuwa was tasked with leading the team on an interim basis.

Pasuwa will be joined by an experienced technical panel, comprising Peter Mponda as first assistant coach, Prichard Mwansa as second assistant coach, and Kinnah Phiri and Young Chimodzi as technical advisors. Currently, the head coach of Malawian giants Nyasa Big Bullets, Pasuwa brings valuable expertise to the role. His immediate focus will be on guiding the Flames through their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Burundi.

Although Malawi has already been eliminated from Afcon contention, Pasuwa’s appointment aims to bring stability and direction to the team. The forthcoming matches will serve as an opportunity for Pasuwa to assess the team’s potential and build momentum for future competitions. With his wealth of experience and success in African football, Pasuwa is well-equipped to navigate the challenges ahead and lay the groundwork for Malawi’s future success.
