Scottland FC Gets US$1.6 Million and 20 New Cars from Wicknell Chivayo After Securing PSL Promotion

Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo bought 20 cars and US$1.6 million to Scottland FC following their recent promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The team secured their place in the PSL after a decisive victory against Black Mambas last week, winning 3-0 in the final match of the Northern Region Soccer League. ZANU-PF legislator Scott Sakupwanya owns the club.

Weeks back, Chivayo pledged to reward the team with Toyota Aqua vehicles if they secured a victory against Herentals. He also promised them US$1 million if they got a PSL promotion.

The Controversial Win

Scottland FC got an edge following the drama involving its match against Karoi FC. On September 15, 2024, the match was tied 1-1 when it was abandoned in the 82nd minute after referee Mathew Dingo was allegedly hit by a missile thrown by Karoi United fans.

According to league rules, if a match is abandoned due to actions by a team’s players, officials, or fans, the other team is awarded a victory. The Northern Region Soccer League gave the match to Scottland on a 3-0 scoreline.

After Scottland FC’s PSL promotion, Chivayo has fulfilled his pledge.

He shared an update on his social media handles:

“Following my pledge to support SCOTLAND FC, I am thrilled to congratulate the team and Hon. SCOTT SAKUPWANYA on their incredible win against MWOS, securing a place in the PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE. True to my word, I have since delivered 20 TOYOTA AQUAS to the team to boost morale and reward their pursuit of EXCELLENCE.

“I will gladly go ahead and honour the USD 1 MILLION pledge I made to the club as a token in recognition of their relentless dedication and commitment that saw them rise to the top of the Northern Region Soccer League table. It is quite remarkable how this team, founded from humble beginnings in MABVUKU, has now earned its place among Zimbabwe’s elite clubs in the PSL.

“I am pleased to further commit an ADDITIONAL pledge of USD 600,000 to assist their PSL journey. I do hope that this SMALL gesture will aid the team’s preparations for the upcoming season by supporting player signings and enhancing their conditions of service. I personally believe that with the right resources and motivation, SCOTLAND FC is set to make history as the first PSL CHAMPIONS in their debut season…WATCH THE SPACE!!!!!”
