UN welcomes ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon

UN Welcomes Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire Agreement.  The United Nations has expressed strong support for the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, marking a pivotal step in de-escalating hostilities in the region. UN officials highlighted the importance of the agreement in alleviating the humanitarian crisis and reducing the toll on civilians affected by the violence.

The ceasefire comes after weeks of escalating tensions, with both sides engaging in cross-border attacks. UN representatives have urged both nations to honor the terms of the agreement and work toward sustainable peace through diplomatic dialogue.

Humanitarian Relief and Reconstruction
They emphasized that the ceasefire provides an opportunity for humanitarian aid to reach affected areas. Efforts are already underway to provide essential resources such as food, medical supplies, and shelter to displaced families. Officials also stressed the need for long-term reconstruction efforts to restore stability and infrastructure in conflict-hit zones.

Regional and International Reactions
The ceasefire has been widely welcomed by the international community, with key nations and organizations commending the leadership of both Israel and Lebanon for prioritizing peace. However, some observers remain cautious, urging vigilance to ensure the ceasefire holds amid fragile relations.

This development is seen as a step forward in mitigating one of the region’s long-standing conflicts, with hopes for future negotiations to address underlying issues and build a more enduring peace.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

He has expressed hope that the deal will end the violence, destruction and suffering of the people of both countries.

United States President Joe Biden confirmed the deal which America and France brokered.

Guterres urged the parties to fully respect and swiftly implement all of the commitments made under the agreement and take immediate steps towards the full implementation of previous Security Council resolutions.

He said the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon both stood ready to support the implementation of this agreement in line with their respective mandates.

US President Joe Biden earlier said the deal would go into effect at 4am local time this morning and was designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities that would see a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon.
