inDrive Offers Condolences and Clarifies Role
inDrive has expressed deep sadness following the murder of one of its drivers, Artwell Nyamayaro, in Harare’s city centre.
In an official statement, the ride-hailing company extended its condolences to Nyamayaro’s family and clarified the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Artwell Nyamayaro due to a tragic incident earlier this past week. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The company emphasised that the incident did not occur during a ride booked through its app.
“We wish to clarify that the incident occurred outside the use of our app. Our app is equipped with features that securely capture and store passenger and driver information, enabling us to assist authorities in ensuring justice is served when required,” inDrive explained.
inDrive urged both drivers and passengers to use the platform exclusively for safety reasons.
“We strongly encourage all users—both passengers and drivers—to prioritise safety by only engaging in rides facilitated through our app. This is crucial in preventing such tragedies and ensuring the protection of all parties involved.”

Police Investigate Gruesome Murder
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that Nyamayaro, aged 24, was found dead on the morning of 19 November 2024.
His body was discovered at the corner of Simon Vengesai Muzenda Street and Nelson Mandela Street with stab wounds to his right leg.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the ZRP said:
“Police in Harare are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of murder in which Artwell Nyamayaro (24) was found dead with stab wounds on the right leg at corner Simon Vengesai Muzenda Street and Nelson Mandela Street on 19/11/24 at around 0645 hours.”
Bloodstained Vehicle Found at Scene
Authorities discovered a Mazda Demio at the scene, further indicating the violent nature of the crime.
“Police recovered a Mazda Demio vehicle, registration number AFS 3528, at the scene. The driver’s seat was bloodstained, and the vehicle had two punctured tyres,” the police confirmed.
The ZRP is continuing its investigation and has called on members of the public to assist. “Anyone with information is encouraged to report it at any nearest police station,” the statement concluded.
