Tragedy in Harare: 9-Year-Old Dies After School Yard Incident
A devastating tragedy has shaken Harare as 9-year-old Anotidaishe Muramba lost his life following a seemingly innocent moment of play at school. What began as child’s play ended in heartbreak, with Anotidaishe passing away on 2 December 2024 at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, leaving his family and community in mourning.
“He Only Complained of Back Pain”
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. In a heartfelt statement shared on Twitter, the ZRP outlined the timeline of events:
“Police in Harare are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a learner, Anotidaishe Muramba (9), who passed away whilst admitted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Harare, on 02/12/24.
“The victim had allegedly reported to his father on 29/11/24 that he was pushed by his classmates at school during child play and complained of back pains.”
It was a minor complaint at first—just a sore back after a day at school. But as the days passed, the pain worsened, culminating in the tragic outcome no parent ever expects.
Authorities have not yet determined whether the incident was purely accidental or if further details will emerge during the investigation.
The full extent of what happened remains under investigation, and the ZRP has urged the public to be patient as they seek the truth.
The school involved, which was not named in the official police statement, has yet to issue an official statement, but it is understood that they are cooperating fully with the police investigation. Meanwhile, social media has been awash with condolences and calls for answers.
