Michael Nees offers Advice to Khama Billiat

In an interview with FARPost, Michael Nees emphasized that Billiat should prioritize joining a club where he won’t face overwhelming pressure to perform as the star player.

Michael Nees praised Khama Billiat for his maturity in the game, stating that the striker has experienced it all and knows exactly what he wants. Nees emphasized that Billiat is no longer a rookie and has reached a level of understanding that allows him to make informed decisions about his career.

“He is one player that I believe has matured so well in this game. You can’t really worry about him because he has seen it all. And is already knowing what he wants, he is at a different level.

But at his age, there are a lot of things to consider when making a move from one club to [another] club. Khama is not a rookie. He is a player who is mature enough to make a decision.”

Nees Acknowledges Billiat’s Limited Time, Eyes Strong AFCON Finish

Michael Nees acknowledged the reality of Khama Billiat’s limited time in international football, emphasizing that the striker doesn’t have many years left at the top level. Nees described the opportunity to help Billiat end his national team career on a high, potentially with a strong showing in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He knows, he doesn’t have ten more years in international football. For me, this was a project to give him an opportunity to end his national team career on a high with the AFCON or even more.

Khama performed well. He is a strong individual but for sure he is not a player that could play for the whole season which is close to 40 games.

But I think he still has legs for 25 high-level matches per year. And he will make the right decision.”

 Focus on a Memorable Finish

Michael Nees urged Billiat to prioritize a club that enables him to end his career on a high note. Nees also stressed that his next club should allow him to balance performance with longevity.

“So, he must find a club that does not need to put so much weight on his shoulders. It would be very difficult. The priority is for him to ensure a memorable ending to his career.”

 Transfer Speculation

As the January 2025 transfer window approaches, Khama Billiat has garnered interest from several clubs, including South Africa’s Sekhukhune United, Tanzanian teams, and Zimbabwe’s newly promoted Scottland FC.
