Zimbabweans were startled after Zimparks announced that the Victoria Falls rainforest would be closed.
Putting Out The Smoke That Thunders
Despite the country hogging the global limelight for all the wrong reasons, from record-breaking inflation to political intrigue, the majestic Victoria Falls remains one of Zimbabwe’s eternal silver linings. International visitors, including global stars like Richard Branson, Neymar and Will Smith, grace the natural wonder of the world to experience the marvel.

However, it was a surprise when the Zimbabwe Parks And Wildlife Management Authority alerted the public of the closure of Victoria Falls.
In a statement, Zimparks announced:
“The public is being advised that the rainforest in Victoria Falls National Park will be temporarily closed to the public because of a special event happening in the park on Monday, 15 April 2024, from 1600hrs onwards. We therefore urge tour operators and individual tourists to adjust their itineraries for the day accordingly.”
As the announcement circulated online, people started speculating about the reason for the unusual closure. One X user said:
“Some megastar shooting a promo or movie – paid so much to compensate for any lost revenue or moral/social cost. Money speaks.”
Others assumed that one prominent female socialite [no names, please] was tying the knot. Despite all the wild suspicions, most remained with unsolved assumptions.
Why The Victoria Falls Rainforest Was Temporarily Closed
It has since emerged that the tourist magnet is temporarily shut down because of an event. Although it was not closed for the wedding of the said socialite, Victoria Falls was shut down for a wedding-related event. Close, right?
The falls closed early yesterday to make way for the Destination Wedding Planners Congress. The event attracted about 600 delegates from different countries, and it will run until 17 April 2024.
Destination Wedding Planners beamed:
“Yes, we are celebrating a decade of connecting the destination wedding industry together and what better way to do it than by bringing the wedding community to one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, Victoria Falls. Prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking allure of the falls, an experience that can only be felt first-hand, and no words or photos can do justice to the feeling!”
