The Department of Gauteng Health is set to unveil an intervention plan to prevent teenage pregnancy in the province.
The department said it was concerned about the increasing number of girls aged between 10-19 years old either terminating or delivering babies.
According to the Health Department’s statistics, more than 20,000 deliveries and termination of pregnancies have been recorded in facilities across the province between 2022-2023.
“There was a need for us to re-look at the existing interventions and to map a way forward into how do we then tackle the problem in the context of the current situation we are faced with and as a result some work had to take place,” said spokesperson Motletale Modiba.
