Ex-England rugby star Jonny May to leave Gloucester

Premiership club Gloucester announced on Tuesday that former England wing Jonny May would be leaving Kingsholm at the end of the season. The 34-year-old is in his second spell at the club after rejoining Gloucester in 2020 following three seasons with Leicester.

He made his Gloucester debut 15 years ago and has scored 73 tries in 191 games for the English Premiership club. May, who is set to make his farewell appearance against Newcastle on Saturday, has been linked with a move overseas.

May is England’s second-highest try scorer behind Rory Underwood, claiming 36 touchdowns in 78 tests before retiring from international rugby after last year’s World Cup.

“There is no doubt that Jonny leaves as a true legend of Gloucester Rugby,” said rugby director George Skivington.

“He will be remembered here for his countless tries, his finishing ability and raw speed, which was second to none. But what people from the outside don’t see is the hard work and attention to detail that Jonny puts in behind the scenes to make himself one of the best try scorers in the world
