Hawks recover gun believed to be used in Ditebogo Junior Phalane’s murder

The Hawks say they have recovered a firearm believed to be the murder weapon used to kill five-year-old Ditebogo Junior Phalane.

The recovery was made when officials arrested two more suspects in connection with the crime.

This brings the total number of people behind bars in connection with the crime to four.

The five-year-old was shot outside his home in Soshanguve over a week ago while his father was being hijacked.

The Hawks say during the arrest of the two suspects in Soshanguve and Atteridgeville on Monday, two firearms were recovered with one believed to be the weapon used to kill the boy.

However, officials say this can only be confirmed once ballistic testing has been conducted.

Hawks spokesperson Wendy Nkabi says one of the suspects arrested is believed to be out on bail for other crimes.

“For alleged hijacking, attempted murder, and possession of unlicensed firearm.”

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
