George building collapse: DA’s Winde denies that companies involved are party donors

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has denied claims that the companies behind the George building collapse are Democratic Alliance (DA) donors.

Winde, who is again running as the DA’s premier candidate, confirmed this after checking against the party’s records.

African National Congress (ANC) caucus leader, Cameron Dugmore, had alleged that the companies responsible for the development would be protected because some donated money to the DA.

“First of all, it’s absolute rubbish. But I did go and check when he said it. I went to check because you know we keep a record and not one of those companies are donors to the Democratic Alliance, so I’ve go no problem in saying that.”

Winde has also added there was no need to set up a judicial commission of inquiry into the disaster where 34 people died, saying there’s more than one investigation underway.
