How Zaka Couple Attempted to Scam EcoSure
To support their false claim, the couple obtained a fraudulent death confirmation letter from the local Headman and forged identity documents of witnesses. The husband, Talent, then completed the insurance claim forms using the fabricated documents and signed on behalf of the witnesses.
However, Ecosure’s investigations revealed that the daughter was alive, exposing the couple’s scheme. The funeral insurance provider filed a police report, leading to the couple’s arrest.
The Masvingo Magistrates’ Court sentenced the couple to 6 months imprisonment. Fortunately for the couple, 3 months were suspended with the remainder being suspended on condition that they perform 105 hours of community service.
