Zimbabwe’s national football team, the Warriors, may be without midfielder Walter Musona for their upcoming CAF World Cup Qualifier match against Lesotho on Friday at Orland Stadium. Musona, who plays for Simba Bhora, missed training sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday due to illness, according to interim coach Jairos Tapera.
“Walter Musona is currently unwell with the flu and did not participate in training yesterday and today,” Tapera said from the Warriors’ camp in South Africa. “We will assess his condition and await a medical update before making a decision on his availability for the match.”
Musona’s potential absence would be a significant blow to the Warriors, as he has been in excellent form in the local league, scoring five goals and providing over five assists this season. He is also one of the few players in the squad with experience in the World Cup qualifiers, having featured in the first two group games against Rwanda and Nigeria in November last year. Notably, Musona scored Zimbabwe’s only goal against Nigeria, securing a 1-1 draw.
The Warriors will face Lesotho on Friday, and Musona’s fitness will be closely monitored ahead of the match.
