Prisca Mupfumira, former Public Service Minister, has been found not guilty of corruption charges involving $90 million National Social Security Authority (NSSA) funds.
The court ruled that Mupfumira didn’t sit on the NSSA Board and therefore couldn’t handpick Drawcard Enterprises, a land development firm. The court also noted a lack of evidence showing Mupfumira forced NSSA to engage Drawcard.
Mupfumira denied allegations, citing loyalty to President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a possible motive for her prosecution. The court agreed that NSSA’s legal service department failed to advise the board properly.
Mupfumira was jointly charged with NSSA director Barnabas Matongera, who was discharged earlier. Magistrate Ngoni Nduna, who delivered the verdict, has been appointed a High Court judge.
