Wicknell Chivayo, Mike Chimombe and Associates Linked to ZEC’s US$9 Million Toilets-Gate Corruption Scandal

Wicknell Chivayo, Mike Chimombe and Associates Linked to ZEC Election Procurement Corruption Scandal

In a shocking revelation that has rocked Zimbabwe’s political landscape, controversial businessmen Wicknell Chivayo, Mike Chimombe, and Moses Mpofu have been embroiled in a yet another massive corruption scandal involving  Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

The controversial businessmen have been implicated in a controversial election material procurement deal totaling US$9,955,011.79.

Shocking Election Procurement Irregularities and Links to Controversial Businessmen

According to documents obtained by ZimLive, ZEC placed a staggering US$9 million order with a South African company, Ren-Form CC – linked to controversial businessmen Wicknell Chivayo, Mike Chimombe, and Moses Mpofu.

ZEC reportedly ordered 2,000 non-flushable toilets and 125,000 reflective vests from Ren-Form CC, 6 days before the August 2023 general elections.

Shockingly, these items were not delivered until April the following year, despite being critical for electoral operations.

This shocking revelation has emerged at a time as the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is investigating into the procurement practices of ZEC and the financial dealings of Ren-Form CC associates.

Allegations of Mismanagement and Collusion

Wicknell Chivayo, Mike Chimombe, Scott Sakupwanya and Moses Mpofu, have been accused of inflating invoices and misappropriating public funds.

This comes as it emerged that the toilets were priced at an exorbitant US$3,800 each, a stark contrast to their market value of approximately US$300 in South Africa.

Financial Irregularities and Legal Concerns

Ren-Form CC reportedly received over US$100 million from various contracts awarded without public tender.

The company is alleged to have acted as a conduit for siphoning millions of dollars into accounts connected to the businessmen, funding extravagant lifestyles and luxury purchases.

The company’s involvement in multiple contracts without undergoing competitive bidding processes has fueled allegations of financial misconduct and exploitation of public resources for personal gain.

Government Response and Accountability Demands

Despite mounting evidence and public outcry, ZEC and implicated parties have not addressed the delayed delivery or financial discrepancies.

The scandal has implicated high-ranking officials, including ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba, who reportedly met with Ren-Form CC executives before they secured the deal. Additionally, George Guvamatanga, the finance ministry’s permanent secretary,  who authorized the payment on September 7, two weeks after the election.

The shocking expose has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about fiscal responsibility within ZEC.
