A social media user has narrated the heartbreaking story of how his sick nephew died at a Chivi tollgate after being denied emergency entry.

The user sent the message via secret links, which allow people to send messages to the person who shares the link while remaining anonymous.

The unidentified man detailed the fateful day he lost his nephew in an avoidable death. On 29 June, the anonymous sender’s nephew was poisoned. On getting to a local clinic, the family was referred to the general hospital.

They then set off and passed through the tollgate at the Chivi Turnoff, 45 km from Masvingo. The anonymous user narrated:

“So vakawana paine long queue ndokukumbira way and the police officer called his supervisor to approve them to use the emergency boom, but the supervisor refused. My brother stayed there for 25 minutes until my nephew died there at the TOLLGATE.

“I am so sad how people live with such bad customer service in a big company like ZINARA. My brother wanted to pay; he didn’t want to pass for free. This matter disturbs me. Maybe if they let him pass, my nephew could have survived. He was only 13.”
