Young Driver Sentenced to 6 Months for Driving Without a Licence in Karoi
The Karoi Magistrates’ Court has sentenced 23-year-old Pethias Mucherwa to six months in prison after he was convicted of driving without a valid licence.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA), Mucherwa was stopped by police on patrol along the Karoi–Chikangwe Road on 15 October 2025. When asked to produce his driver’s licence, he admitted he did not have one.
A verification check with the Central Vehicle Registry confirmed he was not a licensed driver, leading to his arrest and eventual conviction.

Authorities Warn Against Unlicensed Drivers
The NPA has reiterated that unlicensed motorists pose a serious danger on Zimbabwe’s roads.
“Countless lives are being lost due to uncertified and reckless drivers. An unlicensed driver should not be on our roads and those who defy will meet the full wrath of the law,” the authority warned.
Similar Case in Harare Last Month
Just last month, another offender — 32-year-old Oscar Ngonidzashe Mushangazhike from Kuwadzana — was jailed following a reckless driving incident in Harare’s CBD.
He was arrested on 9 September 2025 after speeding down Kenneth Kaunda Avenue, a one-way road, against oncoming traffic before sideswiping another vehicle.
Police responding to the scene discovered he did not hold a valid licence.
Stiff Penalties for Road Violations
Mushangazhike was sentenced on 24 September 2025 to 18 months in prison for reckless driving, with six months suspended for five years, leaving 12 months effective.
On a second count of driving without a licence, he was fined US$80 and banned from driving for 24 months.
Authorities say more arrests and tougher penalties are expected as they continue efforts to protect lives and maintain order on the country’s roads.
