Chinese Mine Managers Deported After Torturing Zimbabwean Worker in Shocking Viral Video
The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, has updated the public on the situation involving two Chinese managers who were filmed torturing a Zimbabwean worker at Makanga Mine in Bindura.
ZRP Launches Investigation After Shocking Abuse Caught on Camera
The disturbing video, showed the Chinese managers instructing a worker to be tied up and lifted into the air using a front-end loader. This incident has sparked widespread outrage.
The victim, believed to be an employee, was reportedly being punished for stealing diesel.
After the video went viral, there were immediate calls for the Chinese managers to be jailed. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) announced on their X (formerly Twitter) account that they had launched an investigation. The ZRP confirmed they had identified the two Chinese nationals involved.
“Reference is made to a video which went viral on social media platforms depicting two handcuffed complainants being lifted by a frontend loader at the instigation of two suspects at Makanga Mine, Hereford Farm, Bindura. The ZRP confirms that the suspects and complainants have been identified in connection with the incident which occurred on 13/07/24. Investigations are in progress.,” the statement reads.

Chinese Bosses Caught on Video Torturing Zimbabwean Mine Worker Deported
While this statement led many Zimbabweans to hope for justice, Nick Mangwana soon dashed those hopes. On Wednesday evening, he announced on his verified X account that the two Chinese managers had been deported earlier that day.
“The two foreign nationals involved in this abuse depicted on a video that went viral were today deported,” Mangwana said.
Outrage as Zimbabwe Swiftly Deports Chinese Bosses
This decision was met with criticism from Zimbabweans, who felt the Chinese managers should have faced prosecution for their “barbaric acts” instead of being simply deported. Some commented that the deportation alone was an inadequate punishment, and the suspects should have at least served a custodial sentence before being sent back to China.
