AKA and Tibz murder case postponed to May

The alleged mastermind in the murder case of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane has questioned the State about the arrest of businessman Mfundo Gcaba who allegedly paid him for the hit.

Last month, the Durban Magistrates Court heard how Gcaba allegedly deposited around R800, 000 to Mziwethemba Gwabeni’s account.

The State also alleges the money was paid in connection to the AKA and Tibz murders.

However, the Gcaba family – which runs a taxi business – has since dismissed the claims saying the money paid to Gwabeni was just for business.

During proceedings of his bail application on Monday, Gwabeni claimed the State had it all wrong.

In his affidavit, as he wants to secure bail in this high-profile murder case, the alleged hit organiser Gwabeni claims the R800 000 paid into his account was for consultancy work.

And while the State says the consultant reference for the payment was used as a coverup for the hit, Gwabeni has denied this.

He questioned the State as to why it has not arrested Gcaba if he is linked to the case.

His lawyer Paul Jorgenson read the affidavit in court.

“The allegations made are defamatory against myself and more importantly for Mfundo Gcaba, as a consequence thereof the SAPS either needs to retract or provide the evidence by arresting Gcaba.”

He added the State’s failure to make an arrest said otherwise.

“The failure to do so can only mean that they accept the monies paid into my account were not for purposes of a hit but was a legitimate payment for the work done.”

The matter has now been postponed to 2 May for closing arguments in the bail application.
